Facing assassins, Kang In-woo (Han Joo-wan) thinks back on the conversation he had with Ja Kyung (Gong Myung) when he asked the guard if he ever has regretted coming to Joseon following Princess Jeongmyeong (Lee Yeon-hee) and staying by her side because of love for the woman. Ja Kyung answers that there was no choice for him and he is still happy in his choice. Before drawing his sword, Kang In-woo speaks in a low voice, "I don't regret and there was no choice for me, either."

Jeongmyeong gazes at Kim Ja-jeom (Jo Min-ki)'s face with distrust and suspicion. The former first vice-premier says that he has never been on the side of people like the princess and Gwanghae (Cha Seoung-won) because they always lose even though they do something righteous. He continues to say that, this time, the losers fighting for justice can seem to make the moment when justice prevails for just a little while.

Kang In-woo repulsed assassins except one urges the survivor to tell the truth about Kang Joo-sun (Jo Sung-ha)'s location. While the princess and her husband are very worried about their friend after the couple heard about his risky behavior, he just walks in the door with a smile as if nothing has happened. Kang In-woo appreciates Hong Joo-won (Seo Kang-Joon) who is an old friend like a real family of him promising to track down his father until he is caught. He suffers from the pain of stab wound after the friend left the place and he orders his subordinate never to tell anybody about the wound until everything will work out fine.

Forcing herself to trust the rebel in an urgent and dangerous situation, Jeongmyeong persuades King Hyojong (Lee Min-ho) to do as Kim Ja-jeom said. With Hong Joo-won and Choi Myeong-Gil (Imho), Kim Ja-jeom visits Obae, the general of Qing, waiting in Mowagwan (during the Joseon Dynasty where envoys dispatched from Ming and Qing China were received as diplomatic guests) for fact-finding. 
He confesses frankly about the secret letter which he handed over to Kang Joo-sun because he wanted to overthrow the king of Joseon by force of Qing. He adds to say that some rebellious subjects of the two countries are now forcing them to come into conflict with each other. On the side of justice, Kim gives the general advice that he has to arrest Dorgon (the royal family in the early years of Qing) who wants to take an occasion to accede to the imperial throne not attack Joseon.

Obae meets Hyojong to make sense of the strife in a safe house. Kang In-woo, who felt in his bones that his father will make desperate efforts not to be outdone, spurs his horse to save the king. Hyojong calls for the general of Qing to have a wise decision telling him about the impure intention of Kang Joo-sun.

People in the safe house are attacked unexpectedly by the rebel while the meeting of Obae and the king. Dozens of people are killed as fighting flares up and Kang In-woo arrives at the house at the moment when his father points a gun at Hong Joo-won. He is shot in the back to save him. The father is devastated looking at the son lying on the ground and the son in the friend's arms says very softly with tears in his eyes staring at his father, "Dad..."
